Position – Entry Level Technical Sales Engineer

Job Summary

This job is ideally suited for an engineer who is technically sound, enjoys interacting with customers and does not mind wearing the multiple hats required when working for a small sales organization. The first year or two of employment will primarily be office based in order to build a solid technical foundation and learn most aspects of the company. In year three and beyond outside technical sales opportunities will be provided for candidates who are both interested and ready for the responsibility. Company Summary – Meter Valve & Control specializes in providing safe and reliable measurement and control products serving the natural gas, water, electric and renewable markets. Type –Full Time Hours – 8 hours minimum sometime between 7 and 5 pm.

Education

Bachelor’s degree requiredEngineering degree preferred Daily Duties/Responsibilities • Technical Support – Respond to customer technical related items including product sizing, troubleshooting and engineering support. • Customer Service – First in line to answer phone calls. Handle simple phone quotes, billing questions, order status and other related questions. Forward calls for more technically challenging applications to other staff. • Quoting – Assist inside sales staff with quotes for everyday items. • Order Entry – Work with inside sales staff to enter orders into Dear Systems. • UPS Labels – Work with warehouse person to get shipping labels printed and update invoices with appropriate shipping cost and tracking information. • Accounts Payable – Enter vendor invoices into system and set aside for payment. Work with bookkeeper to make sure vendor invoices are paid in a timely manner. • Accounts Receivable – Create invoices for shipped items to customer. Work with bookkeeper to make sure customer accounts are paid in a timely manner. • Returns/Credits – Provide customers with return information. Process returns and provide customer credit memos as necessary. • Order Tracking – Track backlogged orders and provide up to date shipment information to customers. • Inventory – Work with staff to ensure inventory is correct and that adequate supplies are on order to meet minimum stocking levels. • Credit Card Transactions – Execute credit card transactions. • UPS Invoices – Review UPS Invoices and resolve discrepancies. • Assist – assist upper level staff preparing presentations, setting appointments, riding along on field/sales calls. Backup Responsibilities • When warehouse staff is unavailable package and ship orders. Growth Opportunities • Phone Sales – Make outbound sales calls to prospective commercial/industrial customers, send necessary sales materials via mail/email, set appointments for outside sales staff to close solicitations. • Local Outside Sales – Make sales calls to our current and prospective commercial/industrial customer base. • Technical Training/Brown Bag Seminars – Provide technical training and/or lunch and learn seminars for current or prospective customers. • Marketing – Develop monthly newsletters keeping customers up to date with new product offerings, incentives, up to date technical knowledge, new code enforcements, etc. Work with website designer to keep website current. • Attend trade shows and provide technical information to customers visiting the booth. Give technical presentations on products that we represent. • Utility Sales – Take on the responsibility of a particular product line or gas utility company and provide the necessary support to support current sales and look for opportunities for growth. Requirements • Strong technical competency to properly size, specify and sell company products. • Strong organizational skills and ability to accomplish multiple tasks. • Strong personal skills to properly handle customers who are upset about product issues. • Excellent writing skills are key to communicating via email to most clients. • Strong phone skills to properly address the customers current needs and ensure the customer enjoys the experience so they continue to come back in the future. • Prompt and dependable. • Proficient or able to quickly learn Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Reports To: Vice President

Compensation:

• Salary – $50,000-$70,000 depending upon educational background and previous work experience. • Extra Hours –In many situations employees are compensated for working more than a standard work week. • Bonus – Can vary between 1-10% of salary depending upon employee and company performance. Additional bonus may be considered If/when the employee takes on the responsibility of a particular product line and/or large customer. Benefits: • Medical – The company has a plan at Kaiser Medical that is 100% funded by the company. The current medical plan is the best Kaiser offers, Platinum 90 HMO 0/15. • 401K/Roth – The company offers either a 401k or Roth plan through WFA. MV&C matches the first 3% of the applicant’s compensation. • Profit Sharing – MV&C offers a profit sharing/cash balance plan which is based upon the applicants employment category and profitability of the company. • Vacation – Full time hourly employees receive 1 week of vacation the first year of employment and two weeks the second year of employment. Additional weeks of vacation are accrued based upon years of experience. Location – East Bay/Alamo Home Office (Detached structure on Property) Background and Reference checks will be performed.
